About Sheila
I have a Masters in Education/Special Needs, with an endorsement to teach English as a Second language. My education is as wide and varied as my many employment opportunities. I have an undergraduate degree in Art History and a minor in Fine Arts/Printmaking. In addition, Associate degrees in: Historic Preservation, Mediation, Non-Profit Management for Executive Directors, TEFL certification, ADHD Coaching certification through the ADD Coaching Academy, and certification in progress with the Deep Coaching Institute.
I have tutored students with learning challenges, from ages 4 to almost 40 years old. Learning subjects have included preparation for Kindergarten to reading skill improvement to essay writing, to how to study neuropsychology.

My primary focus in tutoring and Academic Coaching is to teach students how to learn, to develop ownership of what they learn, and to adapt these skills to other areas of study. Teaching Language Arts and ESOL as well as Standardized test prep are my tutoring subjects however, Academic Coaching provides more of the "how to" learn skill building exercises.
Each lesson plan is geared to the individual student's and their learning process. I will conduct informal assessments with the student, speak with parents and teachers to determine learning style(s) and desired area(s) of improvement. Communication and support for the student's success.
I have also conducted social skills and cultural awareness lessons for international business people and students.
I gear my lessons and coaching to youth through adult.
