About Sienna

English is a great passion of mine, and I hold much enthusiasm in helping younger students thrive when reading, writing, or analyzing texts. A couple years ago, I took classes on creative writing and grammar, including one at Boston University. Following this, I have been recognized for my writing with an award for representing DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) and spoke with a local elementary school council about implementing more inclusive policies in schools. Today, I participate in the National English Honors Society, write for blogs, create literacy programs at my local library, and tutor younger students.

About the lesson

My teaching method starts off with assessing a student's level of literacy and comprehension, then mapping out a structured lesson plan according to the students' needs. A typical lesson plan (e.g. for a student struggling with reading comprehension) will look something like:
- using an easy passage and asking the student to read aloud
- student answers comprehension questions
- I teach the literary elements of how to extrapolate meaning behind the lines
What sets me apart as a tutor is my ability to engage with any student. I have worked with those that could not speak English to a student with dyslexia, and an immense amount of progress has been seen after a couple tutoring sessions.
Lessons are for anyone from K-8th grade, and if need be, I would be more than happy to tutor a 9th grader, as I have done before.
