About Isobel

I’m a qualified secondary English teacher currently teaching at a selective grammar school in Liverpool. I teach English Language and Literature across KS3 and GCSE, as well as English Language & Literature at A Level. I am also an AQA examiner for GCSE English Language and have additional qualifications in literacy and reading.

I love teaching English and particularly enjoy helping students become more confident in a subject they may previously have found difficult or frustrating. My approach is friendly, encouraging and tailored to the individual student: whether that means strengthening reading and writing skills at KS3, building confidence, improving essay writing, or developing the precision and exam technique needed to achieve a higher GCSE grade.

As a current classroom teacher and examiner, I have an up-to-date understanding of the curriculum, assessment objectives and examination requirements, while my literacy specialism allows me to support students who need additional help with reading and comprehension.

I believe the best tuition should feel supportive and purposeful rather than like another hour of school. I aim to get to know each student, identify exactly where they can make progress and give them practical strategies that they can take back into the classroom and eventually use independently.

I am a qualified English teacher currently teaching at a selective grammar school in Liverpool, where I teach English Language and Literature across KS3, GCSE and A Level. I am also an AQA examiner for GCSE English Language, giving me first-hand insight into the assessment criteria and what examiners are looking for in successful responses.

I offer friendly, personalised tuition for students at KS3 and GCSE, whether they are looking to build confidence, strengthen core English skills or work towards a particular GCSE grade.
I can provide support with:

- Exam technique and answering GCSE-style questions
- Essay writing, analysis and structuring responses
- GCSE Literature texts and poetry
- Reading comprehension and inference
- Developing analytical and creative writing
- KS3 English and preparation for GCSE

- Stretch and challenge for students aiming for Grades 7–9

I also specialise in reading and literacy at KS3 and hold additional qualifications in literacy, so I am particularly happy to work with younger secondary students who need support developing their reading comprehension, fluency and confidence.

As a current classroom teacher, my tuition is informed by up-to-date experience of the secondary English curriculum, GCSE assessment and the skills students need to make progress.
