About Natalie

I am a high school student at Needham High School with a strong passion for writing and a proven record of achievement in the field. I have hands-on teaching experience through the National Honor Society, where I have worked as a tutor supporting students in developing their academic skills. This experience has helped me become a more patient, attentive, and effective instructor who knows how to adapt to each student's individual needs.

Writing is not just something I study. It is something I practice, compete in, and care deeply about. That firsthand experience shapes the way I teach. I understand the challenges students face when sitting down to write because I have worked through them myself, and I know what it takes to move from a rough idea to a polished, compelling piece.

I am patient, encouraging, and genuinely invested in each student's progress. My goal is not just to help with the assignment in front of them but to build skills and confidence that will serve them for years to come. Parents can feel confident that their child is learning from someone who takes both writing and teaching seriously.

About the lesson

As a four-time Scholastic Art & Writing Gold Key recipient and American Voices Award nominee, one of only five students selected statewide in Massachusetts, I bring a rare combination of recognized achievement and genuine passion for writing to every lesson. I know firsthand what it takes to develop an original voice, and I love helping younger students discover theirs.

I focus on building confidence first. Many elementary and middle school students struggle with writing because they feel like they have nothing interesting to say, and my job is to prove them wrong. I work with each student individually to find the topics, stories, and ideas they actually care about, then use those as the foundation for developing real writing skills like structure, clarity, and personal voice.

A session usually begins with a short warm-up, either a fun prompt or a piece of published writing we read and discuss together. From there, we move into the student's own work, whether that is a school assignment or a piece we are developing together. I give detailed, encouraging feedback and we revise in real time so students can see their writing improve right in front of them.

What makes me different is that I am not just a writing teacher but an active, award-winning writer myself. I can show students exactly how I approach a blank page, how I revise, and how I have developed my own voice over time. That inside perspective is something most tutors simply cannot offer.
