I prefer to teach students more as a peer than a superior. I like my students to be comfortable around me so they are more engaged and more likely to ask questions. As such, I try to explain concepts in a way that they will understand and remember. I throw in the occasional joke or self-deprecating comment, and I will always continue to explain a lesson in different ways until every student understands.
I am a college student studying applied mathematics and computer science. I have worked for the past few semesters as a learning assistant (similar to an assistant to the Teaching Assistant). I have also tutored four students on an individual basis, and have always been the one my classmates will go to for help with schoolwork.
