About the lesson

My Approach as a Tutor: Making learning fun and relevant.

I believe that every student can learn when instruction is tailored to their needs, interests, and learning style. My role is not just to teach but to empower students to think critically, ask questions, and develop independent learning skills.

Teaching Methods and Techniques:
I use a mix of direct instruction, guided practice, and inquiry-based learning. I start with a quick diagnostic or conversation to assess where the student is, then break complex concepts into manageable steps. I incorporate real-life examples, visuals, analogies, and, when appropriate, interactive tools or games to reinforce learning. I also emphasize active recall and spaced repetition to help students retain information long-term.

A Typical Lesson Plan:
Each lesson follows a simple yet effective structure:

Warm-Up (5 mins): Quick review or check-in to activate prior knowledge.

Objective & Mini-Lesson (10–15 mins): Brief instruction with clear modeling of the concept or skill.

Guided Practice (15–20 mins): Collaborative problem-solving or hands-on work with feedback.

Independent Practice (10–15 mins): Student applies skills on their own, with my support as needed.

Exit Check & Reflection (5 mins): A short assessment or discussion to gauge understanding and set goals for next time.

What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor:
What makes me different is my ability to build rapport and adapt. I’m not just focused on academics but I pay attention to the whole student: their mindset, confidence, and motivation. I bring energy, patience, and a sense of humor to sessions, while maintaining high expectations. My background as a public school teacher and as an assistant principal gives me both content knowledge and the ability to explain things in a way that makes sense, especially for struggling or reluctant learners.

Who the Lessons Are For:
I tutor students from elementary to early college, with a focus on English Language Arts. I’ve worked with varying populations of students.
