About Liza
Hi! My name is Liza. Originally I was born in Russia but have lived in London since the age of six. This made me have a deep appreciation for the process of acquiring language in a real-life context. I have an interest in the intersection of language and art, which shapes both my academic focus and my teaching philosophy. I was homeschooled for a large part of my life; because of this, I have a deep understanding of what independent learning involves; both its flexibility and its unique challenges. This experience has taught me the importance of self motivation through the incorporation of one’s own individual traits and passions into one’s learning.

My teaching philosophy is centred on the belief that learning should never be separate from the student’s personal interests and personality. My aim is to create a learning atmosphere where students feel empowered to bring their interests into the process. This will be tailored based on the particular students' areas for improvement, and can vary immensely. Examples include translating song lyrics, creative writing, or open discussion. I have worked with students of all ages, but I primarily focus on those of an advanced or intermediate level, whose goals are building fluency and confidence in free-flowing conversation. Rather than focusing on grammar drills or exam preparation, I tend to support students who are ready to take their English to the next level through realistic language use and dynamic exploration of various topics. My goal is to make sessions engaging and personal, hence why I only give one on one lessons. This is so that language learning can become not just a skill, but a meaningful part of one’s life. I hold a TEFL certification and have been tutoring for the past three years. During this time, I’ve helped a wide range of students build confidence and find greater enjoyment in the process of language learning.
