About Hal
As tutor/coach, my focus is on equipping the student to analyze and comprehend literature, and to articulate perspectives of the author(s) and characters, then to express personal viewpoints with clarity and style. Students who have trained with me succeed in all professions, including several professional writers. I’ve worked as a teaching artist in schools across the USA since 1993, personally presenting to as many as 70,000 students and educators per year.

The skills learned earning my English degree found a unique balance as I trained to become an actor, transforming my approach to literature and writing. Learning should feel as active as working out, and my job is to coach the students in finding their best practices.
