About Okwethu
My name is Okwethu Banisi, a 21 year old female from Khayelitsha. I am a student at the University of the Western Cape studying a BEd in Languages and Life Orientation (SP). Teaching was never my first choice growing up, I wanted to be an actress. During my school years, I was not living in the township but after matriculating I moved back home. For my first job I worked with a company called Help2Read as a literacy tutor. It was here that my passion to teach began. After noticing the deeply rooted inconsistencies and issues with the education system and education given to children in the township I knew what I had to study. I know I might not be able to change the whole education system, however, I can make a small difference in the lives of the children i teach and inspire them to approach education differently and show them that there is more to life and they can reach beyond whatever boundaries they have grown up in. I want education in the township that does more than just feed children basic educational skills but also help children reach the big dreams they have for themselves that sometimes feel impossible to reach because of their backgrounds and their environment.

English can be quite overwhelming, complicated and for some extremely boring. However, my job is to ensure that English becomes something you enjoy and find a little easier to deal with. I am someone who is able to accomodate any and all forms of learning and believe it is important to have a personalized method of learning for students so that they can grasp the learning material in a way they can understand it best. I will provide whatever tools you may need to ensure that you reach whatever goals you have for yourself. I go above and beyond for all my students and looking forward to getting to know you and improving some marks!
