About Natalie

Using knowledge and tricks from my background in psychology and working with primary school children in a multilingual and neurodiverse setting, I aim to: make learning a new language feel easy and fun, or support you developing and expanding your English skills. No matter your age or the level you're coming to me with, together we can build your English language confidence and skills.

If you speak German, Danish, Swedish or Sepedi, I can easily switch between these languages and English to help you build connections faster to words, grammar and pronunciation.

In 2017 - 2019 I tutored adults in English and worked in an underfunded primary school. Not only did the English literacy level improve, but 7 of my students from different classes received scholarships to attend private boarding schools.
Two of the adults I worked with submitted a grant for funding last year, all in English and on their own, and have started building their community support centre and perma-garden with it to generate income and food for the community.

Offering lessons from the foundations of English to mid-level. Some examples are: learning to read, confidence to speak in English, challenging creative writing, debating or reading comprehension.

Please feel free to request what you need and suggest a lesson length that suits you or your child.
I have worked with people aged 5 - 73 from different backgrounds, abilities and cultures.

About the lesson

Teaching methods:
The success to learn anything requires the lessons and materials to suit your or your child's needs and abilities.
I teach through first understanding your needs and how you work best and then the lessons and tools specifically for you using: worksheets, conversation work, classroom tested challenges and games, songs, brain breaks, and scenario tests.

Level: Beginner - mid-level students.
Some examples for learning: learning to read, learning new words and building sentence, improving confidence in speaking, challenging creative writing, debating, and reading comprehension.

Lesson length: 45 minutes - 2 hours

I also speak: German, Danish, Swedish and Sepedi

Experience:
From 2017 - 2019 I also tutored English to adults who were new to the language or who wanted to practice/be challenged
From 2017 - 2019 I ran after school classes for children who wanted extra support or wanted more challenging work.
From 2017 - 2019 I worked in an underfunded multilingual primary school (ages 6-19, Grades 4-7, classroom size 71-104) as an English, Life Skills and Science teacher.
From 2012 - 2013 I tutored 2 French children (ages 7 & 15) in English and German.
I have worked with people aged 5 - 73 from different backgrounds, abilities and cultures.

As I make lessons specifically for you I factor in the cost of lesson planning, preparation and material/resource costs. Travel cost depends on the distance and means of transport I'll have to take.
We can discuss all these things before you decide if I am the right fit or not.
I offer a 30minute free session in which I can learn about you, we can run some baseline assessment, understand your learning requirements and develop a plan for you or your child.
If you have twins or children (siblings or friends) of similar language levels and ages I offer lessons for groups up to 4, and I'm open to discussing deals/discounts for this.
