About Jay
From a very young age, reading and writing were strong passions of mine. I fell in love with fiction and especially fantasy, but throughout High School and College I also worked on my argumentative and critical thinking skills, which eventually led to my degree in Philosophy. I find plenty of both in my tutoring; even when writing dry and cut argumentative essays, research papers, and especially college application questions, there’s plenty of room for creativity. There’s always a way to preserve your unique voice and perspective in your writing no matter the assignment, and I want you to help you succeed without sacrificing that voice.

Above all, I want my lessons to be methodical and easy to understand. During our first session, the first thing that I like to work on and establish is proper goals and motivation. I want students to feel that practicing their Writing and English skills is well worth the effort and aligned with their goals. After that, my lessons are tailored to the precise needs of the students. For example, if the tutoring is for a class with a set reading list and a corresponding set of assignments, we would work on understanding both the books (which I would read alongside you) as well as drafting assignments. If you were instead, for example, focusing on argumentative essays for a history class, we’d work on outlining, structuring, writing, and editing to give the easy full cohesion. I have experience in a broad number of classes across the entire field of humanities, so I’m very confident that whatever your writing needs are I can accommodate them and help you not only meet expectations but transcend them. Writing’s a lifelong journey, and I believe that we’re always reflected in the things that we write.

Jay is an excellent tutor because he listens and makes me feel confident and comfortable. He teaches in many ways to help me understand. The language he uses helps me comprehend what I am struggling in. I don’t ever feel pressured during our sessions. Highly recommend Jay to get through your math class!
I would recommend Jay because he is very flexible if you end up needing to change the date of the meeting. I would also recommend him because he is very good at explaining the problems or questions you have for him. I have only had him for one semester but he has helped me greatly.
