Teaching Approach & Knowledge Sharing
Teaching Method & Techniques
My teaching philosophy centers on Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) paired with Scaffolding. I focus on maximizing Student Talk Time (STT) so you get maximum practice during every session.
TBRS & Visual Anchor: For younger or beginner learners, I use Total Physical Response (TPR), visual slides, and realia (real objects) to make vocabulary stick without needing direct translation.
L1 Contextual Awareness: I understand common linguistic contrasts between Mandarin/Cantonese and English (such as article usage, tense markers, and phonemes like /r/ vs /l/ or "th" sounds). I structure targeted drills to help you bridge these specific gaps smoothly.
Real-Time Feedback: I provide structured corrections—offering immediate feedback on pronunciation while saving nuanced grammar or phrasing suggestions for a structured review at the end of class.
Typical Lesson Plan (45–60 Minutes)
Every lesson follows a clear, predictable structure so you always know what to expect:
Warm-Up & Free Talk (5–10 mins): Casual conversation or a light icebreaker to build confidence and switch your mindset into English.
Concept & Vocabulary Introduction (10 mins): Interactive presentation of new vocabulary, idioms, or grammar rules using real-world scenarios.
Guided Practice (15–20 mins): Reading articles, role-playing practical scenarios (e.g., job interviews, travel, business negotiations), or completing guided sentence exercises together.
Independent Application (10 mins): You take the lead—summarizing a passage, giving a short opinion speech, or engaging in a discussion using the new tools learned.
Feedback & Wrap-Up (5 mins): Reviewing custom notes, corrected sentence structures, and targeted pronunciation points from the session.
What Sets Me Apart
Patient & Encouraging Environment: I build a safe space where making mistakes is welcomed as a vital part of learning.
Customized Notes: After every lesson, I provide detailed session notes containing target vocabulary, corrected sentences, and personalized home practice tips.
Cultural & Practical Bridge: Beyond textbook grammar, I focus on natural expression, modern slang, and professional etiquette so you sound fluent and confident in real-life settings.
Who the Lessons Are For
My lessons are tailored for a wide range of learning goals and age groups:
Children & Young Learners (Beginners to Intermediate): Phonics, basic vocabulary building, reading fluency, and school curriculum support.
High School & University Students: IELTS/TOEFL speaking prep, essay proofreading, and academic discussion skills.
Adult Professionals & Business ESL: Business correspondence, interview preparation, presentation delivery, and conversational fluency for career advancement.
All Proficiency Levels: From absolute beginners needing step-by-step guidance to advanced speakers refining their accent and idiomatic expression.
