About Victor
My name is Chude Victor, am a Nigerian. So the idea of a parent language is really a matter of terminology. It is usually refers to a stage of a language that has a name and is no longer intelligible to later speakers. Latin is the parent language of the Romance languages. But Latin is only a stage of a language that traces back to something we call Indo-European, for which we have no records. And the earlier stages of Indo-European are lost in the sands of time.
To me, it seems strange to call Old English the parent language of modern English, even though we can’t understand it any better than French speakers can understand Latin. The term seems more natural when a language has left copious records and then splits into multiple languages, as happened with Latin. For most of the world’s languages, we don’t have records of earlier stages, so we don’t refer to their “parents.

What language has no parent language?
All languages go back to a time where we have no knowledge of what they were like. The origins of human language are hidden from us. Sometimes one or more stages of a language will be given a name. Latin today is called French, Spanish, etc. Sometimes different stages of the language are designated “old, middle…”. We have Old English, Middle English and Modern English. Sometimes a language goes thousands of years with the same name, like Greek. And for some languages we have no knowledge of earlier stages.
