About Jaqueline

Having a strong background in language education, tutoring, and early childhood instruction, I am confident in my ability to support students in developing the critical literacy skills they need to thrive academically and beyond. In my roles as a Paraeducator at both Ruby Bridges and Maya Lin Elementary Schools in Alameda, I have worked closely with students in small groups and one-on-one to reinforce reading instruction, implement IEP goals, and support literacy development across various learning levels. At Daniel Webster Elementary School in San Francisco, I led weekly reading-focused lessons tailored to early elementary students, emphasizing phonics, vocabulary, and comprehension strategies—particularly for English language learners. My academic foundation, which includes a B.A. in Liberal Studies with an emphasis in International Relations, along with an A.A. in Early Childhood Education, has equipped me with both a broad and deep understanding of child development and educational theory. Additionally, my bilingual skills (English and Portuguese) and certification in Translation and Interpretation from UC Berkeley have helped me build strong connections with diverse student populations. I am passionate about helping children become confident readers. I believe in creating an encouraging, inclusive, and structured learning environment where students can grow at their own pace. I would be honored to bring this approach to your student.

About the lesson

As a tutor, I take a flexible and student-centered approach, which means I adapt to the needs, learning styles, and goals of each individual. Here's how I typically approach teaching:

Teaching Method and Techniques:
Active Engagement: I prioritize making lessons interactive, encouraging students to ask questions, share ideas, and apply what they’re learning in real-time. This helps to solidify concepts by engaging both cognitive and emotional investment.

Clear Explanations with Examples: I break down complex ideas into manageable chunks and use relatable examples to explain abstract concepts. Analogies, metaphors, and real-life applications are key techniques I use to make lessons more understandable.

Progressive Difficulty: I structure lessons so that we start with the basics and gradually build to more complex material. This scaffolded approach ensures that foundational knowledge is solid before moving on to advanced topics.

Use of Visuals and Multimedia: Whenever possible, I incorporate visuals, diagrams, and multimedia (e.g., images or videos) to support the lesson and cater to different learning styles.

Personalized Feedback: I provide continuous feedback to help students understand their progress and areas for improvement. Constructive feedback is always focused on encouraging growth, not just pointing out mistakes.

Reflection and Recap: I ensure that at the end of each lesson, there's a chance to recap key points, answer lingering questions, and reflect on the learning process, reinforcing what was just covered.
