About Celeste

Hello!
My name is Celeste, I was born and raised in Montreal, but spent the last few years studying abroad, originally in numerous countries in Southern Africa and for the past two years in New Mexico, USA. My personal English learning journey has been enriched by people of various backgrounds, who oftentime spoke English as a second, third or even fourth language; working as an English tutor within such diverse communities has enabled me to appreciate the language all the more by rediscovering it through the lens of different languages and cultures. Although I am back in Montreal, my passion for English continues to expand as I nurture avid reading and writing practices, and continue my academic journey. I wish you a warm welcome to Superprof, in hopes I can share this learning experience with you!

About the lesson

In all lessons, I prioritize the establishment of a comfortable and conversational space in order for the student to feel empowered to ask questions and make comments. I believe that learning goes both ways, and only through honest and equal participation will I be able as a teacher to understand and adapt to the student’s needs.
All lesson plans will be constructed based on a previous conversation with the student about their strengths and areas for growth, enabling the plan to focus around using the student’s capacities to work together on their difficulties. For instance, if a student considers themselves to be passionate about creative writing but struggles with grammar, our lesson will focus on incorporating grammar rules in a creative writing practice. Learning is a process that must fully center around the learner; as all aspects of the English language must be touched on to fully understand the language, all traits of the learner must be considered in learning.
My own learning journey in English has enabled me to adapt to the needs of a wide variety of levels of English mastery in students. I was raised bilingual, but completed elementary school in French, where I witnessed English being taught to beginners. As I spent a part of my highschool and the entirety of my college years studying abroad in English, where I equally worked as an English tutor, I adapted to teaching academic English. Thus, I would be happy to help students across the learning spectrum; from basic conversational English to essay writing.
