About Teddy

I am an inclusive teaching practitioner with over eight years of experience helping to support young people in their academic and personal lives. After undertaking a teaching course, I realised I would miss the individualised 1-1 work I had previously excelled at were I to become a full-time class teacher, so I decided to set up this tutoring page to help people excel on a personalised learning plan. My previous role involved extensive 1-1 or small group tutoring of students undergoing functional skills examinations, creating scaffolded lessons that would allow them to take an active effort in their own learning.

About the lesson

Hello! I’m Teddy, an academic tutor and childcare professional based in Brighton. I've taught in full-size mainstream school classes as well as small groups in both mainstream and alternative provisions, and specialise in supporting young people with special educational needs to access education in a way that fosters a genuine enjoyment of learning. I have a cumulative eight years' experience working with young people with SEND, an would love to support you or the young people in your life to achieve their academic and personal goals.

Schooling and exams can be incredibly triggering, especially for neurodivergent learners, and this can result in learners being written off by the mainstream education system. With the right support, this doesn't have to be the case. I have been trained extensively in supporting young people with so-called challenging behaviours, and believe all behaviour arises from a need for communication. I am well-versed in de-escalation and have worked full-time with school refusers and learners with PDA profiles to facilitate academic re-engagement without fear.

As an Autistic learner myself, I know firsthand how hard it can be to understand lessons not created with the way you process the world in mind, so it’s my aim to bring my approach of adaptive teaching to learners with care and patience. I work hard to incorporate students loves and respect their limits, giving space for my students to discuss any special interests and apply these passions to academic contexts. I can also adapt to the needs of neurodivergent students with my lesson structures: my lessons can last from 30 to 90 minutes as desired based on topic, but can also be tailored to include movement or rest breaks for active minds and bodies. I work with my students' needs, not against them.
