About Katie
I have taught 9th Grade English for 6+ years at the best schools in Austin: IDEA Rundberg College Preparatory (ranked #3 by U.S. News) and McCallum High School (ranked #16 by U.S. News). My main objective has been to help students feel prepared for the English 1 STAAR, which is one of the standardized tests that students in Texas must pass in order to graduate. I have mastered how to strengthen students' reading stamina, their problem solving when approaching multiple choice questions, their understanding of grammar, and their ability to outline, write, and revise a strong 4-5 paragraph essay. These skills are necessary for them to succeed throughout their high school careers. My favorite part of being a teacher is getting to talk with students about their feelings, what their opinions are, and why they have these thoughts. Now that I'm transitioning towards becoming a therapist, I have ample time to support students 1-on-1 with these skills that I have become an expert on during my teaching career. I really look forward to working with your teenager to help them feel more confident as a ninth grader navigating the complexities of high school!

I offer tutoring for students who are struggling in their 9th grade English class and want help with course content like reading comprehension, grammar, spelling, and the writing process. I also offer an option for students who would benefit from content-specific English tutoring AND task management support. These students are struggling to keep up with the mental load of high school in general. I will work with students to identify problem areas across all subjects and provide support as needed. This includes grade check-ins to hold your student accountable. Another option is for students who would benefit from content-specific English tutoring, grade check-ins, support with all classes, AND social/emotional coaching. These students might be experiencing struggles with their classmates, teachers, and/or administrators, while receiving grades that do NOT reflect their potential. We can try to get to the bottom of why these struggles are happening and come up with possible solutions while also making sure to stay on top of classwork.
