About Anna

I hold a PhD in Arts Management and Cultural Policy, an MSc in International Management and Marketing, and a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management. My academic background combines management, arts management and cultural policy, with particular expertise in qualitative research and research design.

Alongside my own academic research, I have two years of experience mentoring PhD researchers and have provided one-to-one dissertation and research guidance to over 30 Master’s students. I have worked with students at different stages of the research process, helping them develop initial ideas into focused research questions, strengthen their engagement with literature, select appropriate methodologies, structure research proposals and build coherent, feasible research projects.

I also have extensive experience in international academic research and communication. I have organised and co-organised multiple international academic conferences and research events, including funded academic events involving researchers and external partners. My own research has been presented at international conferences, and I have experience taking research from an initial idea through to a full academic paper accepted for international conference presentation.

I now specialise in research proposal development for Master’s students and prospective PhD researchers, particularly in management, arts management, cultural policy and related social science disciplines.

My teaching is not simply about correcting your writing. I work with you to understand the logic behind a strong research proposal: what makes a research problem worth investigating, how to turn an interesting topic into a researchable question, how literature supports your argument, why a particular methodology fits your question, and how these elements come together into one convincing research design.

By the end of our work together, my goal is not only for you to have developed a stronger proposal of your own, but to understand the research thinking behind it — knowledge you can carry forward into your Master’s dissertation, PhD application and future research.

I offer a structured six-session Research Proposal Programme for Master’s and prospective PhD students who want to develop a research proposal from an initial idea to a complete draft. You do not need to arrive with a fully developed research question. You may already have a topic in mind, or simply an area that interests you. Across six one-to-one sessions, I will guide you through the process of turning that starting point into a clear, coherent and feasible research proposal.

Session 1 – From an Idea to a Researchable Topic
We explore your initial interests, identify key concepts and potential research problems, and narrow a broad topic into a focused and researchable direction.

Session 2 – Literature, Research Gap and Rationale
We examine the relevant literature and identify how your proposed research fits within existing academic conversations. You will learn how to move beyond simply summarising previous studies and use the literature to establish a research gap, rationale and potential contribution.

Session 3/4 – Research Questions and Methodology
We refine your research question and objectives and develop an appropriate methodology. Depending on your project, we can discuss research philosophy, research design, sampling, data collection, analysis, ethics and feasibility.

Session 5 – Building the Full Proposal
We bring the different elements together into a coherent proposal. We focus on structure, academic argument, connections between sections and how to clearly communicate what you want to investigate, why it matters and how you plan to conduct the research.

Session 6 – Reviewing and Strengthening Your Draft
Once you have developed your full draft, we review it together and identify areas that need further refinement. We focus on clarity, coherence, criticality and consistency across the research problem, literature, research questions and methodology, leaving you with a clear plan for your final revisions.

My role is not to write your proposal for you, but to guide you through the intellectual process of developing it. By the end of the programme, my aim is for you to have both a strong proposal of your own and a clearer understanding of how to design independent academic research.

My expertise is particularly suited to qualitative and interdisciplinary research in management studies, marketing, arts management, cultural policy and cultural governance. If your project falls outside these areas, please contact me before booking so we can determine whether my research expertise is a good fit for your topic.
