About Maria
I am a former Cambridge English student with a lifelong love of literature. Now in my mid-twenties, I aim to help teenagers attain their academic goals, while fostering a genuine love of reading and writing in the process. Working with students is a truly special and rewarding job. Whether or not my students share my passion for the subject, I will always find a point of interest that we can centre our work around. I've been tutoring for almost six years, and seeing people's confidence grow really doesn't get old.

We will typically begin our first session by outlining any queries or concerns the student has about their syllabus. They will show me some of their previous work, and talk me through the areas they would like us to focus on. We will come up with a study plan together, and review this every couple of weeks.
A typical weekly session might involve developing a school essay, brainstorming comparisons between key texts, or working through the structural elements of essay writing. I use a visual model to help students work logically through the essay process - we follow a circular shape from the introduction to the conclusion.
In my experience, the most successful tutoring sessions focus on a student's personal goals, rather than the attainment of certain marks. We will work towards specific and realistic weekly goals, such as "I want to write two clear paragraphs about Romeo and Juliet."
I studied English at Trinity College Cambridge, where I covered a history of literature from the 13th century to the present day. In my final year I specialised in Medieval studies and 20th century science fiction.
I tutor both GCSE and A Level Literature and Language. I also offer coaching for students who aspire to attend Oxbridge, from ELAT exam preparation, to mock interviews.

Maria tutored my daughter for her Oxbridge ELAT 2022 exams and then for her college interviews. My daughter enjoyed her tutor sessions finding them extremely useful. Maria was always well-prepared, positive and encouraging. I have no hesitation in recommending her as a tutor.
