About Charlotte
I have a First Class Master's in English from Gonville & Caius College, Cambridge. I also have A levels in French and Latin and undertook a module in French poetry as part of my university degree. As well as tutoring students in English Literature for GCSE, A Level and entrance exams, I have taught creative writing for the 11 plus. I have copyedited and proofread numerous postgraduate theses at MA and doctorate level. I spent a number of years working in a literary and talent agency before going freelance as a professional editor where I work primarily with creative writers to develop their books, both fiction and non-fiction.

I have experience supporting students from secondary school to postgraduate level as an online tutor and in person. I can help students develop their knowledge and skills as they prepare to sit exams or submit dissertations. Depending on individual needs, I can provide lessons analyzing and discussing assigned set texts or building subject-specific understanding for more general application. My teaching style is conversational and based on the one-to-one 'supervision' format used at Cambridge University. I find this approach helps to build student confidence both in their own ideas and interpretations, and their ability to articulate those ideas clearly. For younger students I always ensure the school's mark schemes and prerequisites are taken into account when planning lessons. For students in higher education I tend to focus on drawing out and amplifying individual styles, strengths and preferences, building up weak areas where necessary. In addition to teaching literary analysis in various forms, I have extensive experience working with adult creative writers, and can provide support and guidance for those looking to build their abilities outside formal education. Lessons are typically 1 hour.
