About Stewart
I can help students develop the core skills required for humanities subjects: academic language, essay planning, researching, exam skills, and revision techniques. Armed with these skills students can tackle any humanities exam or piece of coursework. I can also help students practice course material, through exercises and games.
Many students do not thrive in a formal teaching environment. As an individual who is currently a student (studying for a Masters in Sustainable Cities) I prefer a more casual approach. I am here to help students push themselves that little bit further, or work through issues they are stuck on.
Since I was in school myself, I have taught on a voluntary basis. While at school I achieved a Junior Sports Leader award, organising and teaching PE lessons. Throughout my undergraduate History degree, I honed my academic skills. I have also trained in Teaching English as a Foreign Language and have volunteered teaching lessons in my local area.
If the student requires formal assistance, and a teacher with in-depth knowledge of their syllabus, then I would recommend a different teacher. However, if the student has everything they need to jump up to that next grade, and just need help with skills, as well as a bit of guidance, then I would be a great fit.

Stewart Kelly has been an active member of our volunteering team and has been working on the Talk English Project as a Volunteer ESOL Teacher. Stewart started his role on the 10th June 2019 and finished on the 11th August 2019. He undertook two classes a week, one of them being on a Sunday evening. Stewart was very accommodating by giving up his time on a Sunday to deliver IT and English class to a group of senior men from the community. He also delivered a class to a group of women in the local Mosque.
Steward has shown good level of initiative and flexibility to plan and deliver the classes in accordance to the needs of the learners, he built good rapport with all his learners and helped them to improve their everyday English and IT skills.
Stewart was a very committed and conscientious member of the team who showed the ability to work on his own and with other team members. He had excellent time keeping, was honest and trustworthy. I would highly recommend him for any opportunity he may be applying for.I am writing to support Mr Stewart Kelly’s application for this site. I have known Mr Kelly, since 30 September of 2015. I have taught him for two advanced options here at Kent. Firstly, a second year module entitled ‘From Crisis to Revolution, France 1774-1799’ and for an advanced final year undergraduate Special Subject entitled: ‘Napoleon and Europe 1799-1815, War, Empire, Civilisation and Law.’ This final course was taught during the autumn term of 2017 and ran into the spring of 2018 at Kent. This programme of study consisted of twenty-four three-hour seminars in which the enrolled students, each week, presented their findings and discussed the methodological issues which arose in their study of early nineteenth century Europe and the Napoleonic Empire’s desperate attempts to achieve imperial hegemony. During this module, all students were required to research & prepare four essays and during the summer term they sat two closed examinations. I am impressed with Mr Kelly’s work which at its best verges on first-class quality. He achieved very high mark of 68 in his final examinations for ‘From Crisis to Revolution France 1774-1799’ two years ago. For his Special Subject on Napoleon he was awarded 66 overall. I find Mr Kelly to be a dedicated and intellectually gifted student who asks some insightful questions, makes telling historical comparisons and has a real passion & verve for global history. His work is well-researched and based on well-targeted reading. His participation in seminars is thoughtful and always constructive. I am particularly impressed by his ability to respond to and engage with the thoughts and ideas proposed by other students. Ultimately, he has substantial intellectual curiosity and analytical acuity which is an essential asset for any prospective Tutor. He is extremely polite and has strong interpersonal skills. I am certain that he will thrive studying at an advanced graduate level. As you shall also see from his CV Mr Kelly is a well-rounded individual. I recommend him unreservedly for this site.
Faithfully yours, Ambrogio A. Caiani (Senior Lecturer European History)View more recommendations
