About Angela
Choosing a tutor is an investment in your child’s future, and I do not take that responsibility lightly. As a currently practicing Second Grade Teacher I bring a level of classroom-tested expertise that goes beyond simple homework help. I am not just a tutor; I am a literacy specialist who understands the intricate architecture of how a child’s brain learns to read. My background in Explicit Teaching ensures that no instructional minute is wasted, and my mastery of the UFLI curriculum allows me to provide the structured, sequential foundation that young readers—especially those with diverse learning needs—require to thrive.
When a child struggles with literacy, it impacts their entire self-image. My mission is to replace frustration with "aha!" moments. By combining the rigor of evidence-based instruction with the warmth and patience of a primary educator, I create a professional environment where students feel safe to take risks, make mistakes, and ultimately, become fluent, lifelong readers.

I believe that literacy is a civil right, and my approach is rooted in the Science of Reading. I move away from "guessing" strategies and instead use Explicit Teaching, where I clearly model a skill, we practice it together, and then the student demonstrates mastery (the "I Do, We Do, You Do" model).
Because of my background in co-taught Special Education environments, I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all lesson. I use Differentiated Instruction to meet students exactly where they are—whether they need intensive phonological awareness support or are ready for advanced morphology and fluency work.
What truly distinguishes my tutoring is my ability to bridge the gap between general education and specialized intervention. I have spent years in a Co-Taught Special Education classroom, meaning I am uniquely equipped to support students with ADHD, Dyslexia, or processing delays. I don't just teach the "what"; I teach the "how" by breaking down complex literacy tasks into bite-sized, achievable wins that build a child's confidence.
