About Danielle
I am a Certified Reading Specialist and Certified Academic Language Practitioner (CALP) with a Master’s in Literacy and over 11 years of teaching experience. My classroom experience includes teaching Kindergarten for 5 years, First Grade for 3 years, Gifted and Talented for 1 year, and Third Grade for 2 years. In 2021, I was honored as Teacher of the Year, and I am currently based at a distinguished private school on the Upper West Side. Throughout my career, I’ve been passionate about helping students build the skills and confidence they need to become successful readers. I believe learning should always be fun, engaging, and meaningful—especially for young learners. Whether pre-K students are just beginning to read, or older students are struggling with dyslexia, my goal is to provide the support, encouragement, and evidence-based instruction needed to grow my students into confident, lifelong readers.

I use a structured literacy approach, which means my instruction is evidence-based and provides explicit, systematic, and sequential multisensory teaching. To keep sessions engaging, I incorporate a variety of activities and learning games while targeting each student’s individual needs. Lessons often cover the essential components of literacy: phonics, decoding, phonemic awareness, comprehension, vocabulary, fluency, spelling, and handwriting.
Before working with a new student, I speak with parents to gather information about concerns and goals. I also administer initial assessments to develop a clear understanding of the student’s literacy profile. In subsequent sessions, I monitor progress with data points and benchmarks, ensuring instruction is adjusted as needed to support steady growth.
I am trained to teach the following structured literacy curriculums: Orton-Gillingham, Take Flight, and Friends on the Block.
