About Cinna
I am currently studying Classics at Oxford, in my final year (estimated 2:1/First). I have been learning Latin for 7 years (2 with the help of the active method), and Ancient Greek for 4. I have also had the pleasure of learning modern languages including German and Modern Greek.
I owe my sustained enthusiasm for languages in part to my teachers who taught me various ways of reading like reading in rhythm as metre dictates, or taking a text that seems confusing and taking the time to piece it together, like revealing a secret message! I aim to pass on these joys to my students, as well as help them become more comfortable with the languages I teach - able to translate if they want to but also to read, analyse, engage with texts with less reliance on translation as a crutch.

I have experience with both written and active methods of teaching and learning (grammar-translation vs. learning Latin/Greek through speaking and discussing texts in the original language); I am happy to use either based on what the student is used to/interested in.
If/when the student wants to we can read set texts together - I will identify points for commentary and comprehension, and clear any doubts - but I will also choose texts (e.g. from the Cambridge Latin Anthology, or my own selections) that will help the student familiarise themselves with a wide range of writing styles (e.g. historiography, lyric, epic).
