About Micaela

Hi, I’m Micaela! I’m a PhD student in Clinical Psychology with over five years of experience as an essay tutor. I’m passionate about helping students find their voice, build confidence in their writing, and communicate their ideas clearly and effectively. I’ve worked with students on college and graduate school application essays, as well as high school and college course assignments across a wide range of subjects, including psychology, economics, theology, sustainability, etc. My background in both teaching and research allows me to provide feedback that is thoughtful, structured, and tailored to each student’s needs. In addition to tutoring, I have extensive experience with academic writing and publication. I’ve co-authored over 15 peer-reviewed research articles. Whether you need help brainstorming ideas, organizing your essay, refining your writing style, or polishing your grammar, I’m here to support you every step of the way. My goal is to help you not only improve your current work, but also grow as a writer for the future.

About the lesson

I work with high school and college students on all stages of the writing process, such as brainstorming a topic, developing clear and cohesive arguments, and improving grammar and writing style. I provide collaborative and individualized support to each student. I independently review each writing assignment to identify areas of strength and opportunities for improvement. I provide constructive, detailed comments, not just edits, to encourage students to think critically about their assignments. In one-on-one sessions, I walk through my feedback with the student and help them learn from my critiques and writing tips. Depending on the student's level of need, I provide either a coaching approach (for independent revision) or a guided approach (for working together to integrate edits).

Details

For essay brainstorming, construction, and writing support, a one-hour session includes discussion and practice writing together. For essay feedback and writing tutoring, a one-hour session includes 45 minutes of pre-reviewing your writing and a 45-60 minute online session to review and discuss your writing and any edits or suggestions.
