About Emma
I am your friendly neighborhood grammar nerd. I teach reading and writing to elementary students, most with special needs or for whom English is their second language. I have taught high school, college, and adults as well. I have a Bachelor of Science in Biology, Chemistry, and Literature, so I am comfortable tutoring in the sciences, although the last specialization is my truest love. The written word is everything to me, and I'm actually a published author (with another book on the way!). My experience sharing the beauty and excitement of learning English with my students has fostered a deep, abiding love for teaching. Aside from reading, I like yoga, long walks, my one-eyed and three-legged cat, and music. I can't wait to learn more about you!

My lessons are as diverse as the students I teach. In general, though, I follow the approach of "I do, you do, we do," which gives the student room to observe, practice, and ultimately understand with confidence. Whether I'm helping a fourth-grader with Down's syndrome understand how to construct a sentence, or whether I'm helping a college student proof her term paper, I give you the promise that I won't try to box you or your learning style in a box.
