About Steven
I am an attorney who regularly appears before state and federal court judges, including panels of appellate judges, and so, I will always exhibit a high degree of professionalism.
I regularly assist junior lawyers at my firm with their writing, proofreading, and researching abilities. I am the go-to for most junior associates in my practice group before their assignments are submitted to partners because I am approachable, genuine, kind, and not judgmental. I always want those I teach to leave with more confidence every time I assist. I prefer to say I assist as opposed to teach because one’s writing journey is lifelong. I still strive to improve my own writing skills on a daily basis.

In my opinion, the key to writing is keeping the reader engaged. This starts by first identifying one’s audience. Thereafter, it is about planning what the writer wants to and intends to convey, and the tone by which to do so. And then it is time to plan how it will be conveyed—in other words, outlining the intended writing. And once writing begins, style becomes important, from sentence structure to word choice.
I believe practice is the only way to learn. And to get the most out of practice, focus and attention is critical. I will make writing fun. As someone who once despised writing, I know what it takes to capture one’s interest in the art of writing. I will do exercises with each student. We will read writing samples together and identify issues with those samples, and how they can be improved upon.
My lesson plan changes with the needs of each student. Our first lesson will include a writing exercise that will help me identify where we should begin. The lesson plan will evolve from that initial exercise. I understand that my students have other educational obligations so I do not believe in assigning homework. All writing exercises will be performed during our sessions.
My classes are for high school, undergraduate, graduate, professional school, and high performing 8th grade students.
