About Tillie

You might find that math has felt like a chore rather than a puzzle lately. My work as a tutor began as a way to cover rent but turned into a career because I enjoy the challenge of making sense of hard problems. I have spent 8 years helping high school and college students sharpen their skills in number sense and basic algebra.

My approach emphasizes building a solid foundation before we move toward the mechanics of drilling problems. Many of my students reach out after other methods have failed to click for them.

I enjoy working with honors students, homeschoolers, and anyone who feels like they are stuck on a plateau. My academic background includes an MS in Applied Mathematics from Georgia Tech, which helps me explain concepts clearly.

I am just a person who finds the logic of numbers much more interesting than my previous office job. I really enjoy the moment when the lightbulb finally turns on for a student. It makes the time I spend teaching feel quite rewarding.

Picture us sitting down together to break a complex word problem into smaller, manageable parts. We start by working through a few examples side by side until you feel comfortable with the underlying logic.

Once the pattern becomes clear, I slowly take the scaffolding away to see how you handle the math on your own. These sessions are designed to be relaxed and hands-on for everyone involved.

I keep the pressure low because I want you to feel free to ask questions about fractions or ratios without any stress. My primary goal is for you to reach the point where you can explain the concept back to me unprompted. Years of practice have shown me that this method works best for students who want to build real understanding. You are welcome to reach out if you want to give this style of learning a try.
