Many of us have chosen this profession because of someone in our past, someone who inspired us to be a guide for imparting knowledge and wisdom to others. There are different ways to achieve this, but the ultimate aim of teaching is the connection between an individual and a subject area that can be expressed through the different periods of our lives. It is clear to me that experience and subject expertise are essential to developing our ability to interact with other people through instruction, regardless of the subject matter. Over the years, both elements, teaching and learning, go hand in hand, and this reciprocity will help keep us current in an ever-advancing world. Each generation is different, and that is indeed where an educator can demonstrate the intellectual capacity of teaching.
My life and work philosophy as a teacher revolves around learning something new every day, and then sharing and teaching the newly acquired knowledge to other people, individuals who are receptive to learning through the discoveries and experiences of others. As a Spanish instructor, I have learned a great deal about the origin and development of the language. These two areas have helped me understand why I speak Spanish, why Spanish is a Romance language, why Spanish is spoken in so many Latin American countries and, most importantly, why Spanish is my mother tongue. This solid foundation provided the springboard for my interest in teaching my native language. . Speakers of other languages may sometimes hear that Spanish is very easy to learn. Yet living the language and experiencing it first-hand is a feeling you are either born with or embrace as you interact with Spanish and the culture.
