About Monica

Hi, I’m Monica. I’m a credentialed Special Education teacher with several years of experience working with middle and high school students. I specialize in helping students strengthen reading comprehension, writing skills, organization, and overall academic confidence. Throughout my career, I’ve worked with a wide range of learners and have developed a strong ability to break down complex concepts into clear, manageable steps.

I believe that every student can succeed with the right strategies and support. My goal as a tutor is not only to help students complete their assignments, but also to help them understand how to approach learning more effectively. I focus on building skills that students can apply independently, including critical thinking, study strategies, and organization.

I’m especially passionate about working with students who may feel frustrated or overwhelmed with school. Creating a calm and encouraging learning environment helps students feel comfortable asking questions and taking risks in their learning. When students begin to understand material that once felt confusing, their confidence grows—and that confidence often carries over into the rest of their academic work.

I look forward to helping students build the skills and confidence they need to succeed.

About the lesson

My tutoring approach is structured, supportive, and highly individualized. As a credentialed Special Education teacher, I focus on helping students build strong foundational skills in reading, writing, organization, and academic thinking. I begin by identifying each student’s strengths and areas where they need support, and then I design lessons that break complex concepts into clear, manageable steps.

During a typical lesson, I start with a short review to reinforce previously learned skills and check for understanding. I then introduce the focus skill for the session—such as reading comprehension strategies, writing organization, or study skills—and guide the student through examples and practice activities. I provide immediate feedback and adjust instruction as needed so students feel supported while being challenged to grow. At the end of the lesson, we review what was learned and discuss how to apply those strategies to their schoolwork.

What sets my lessons apart is my ability to adapt instruction to different learning styles. I use techniques that support executive functioning skills like organization, planning, and time management, which are often key to academic success. My goal is not only to help students complete their current assignments but also to give them strategies they can use independently in the future.

My lessons are best suited for upper elementary, middle school, and high school students who want to improve reading comprehension, writing skills, study habits, or overall academic confidence. I also have extensive experience supporting students who need additional structure, including those with learning differences or attention challenges.
