About Maia
As a neurodiverse Māori wahine, sometimes school is hard. I get that.
Despite it all, we all are striving to be our best selves, even if you don't know what that looks like for you. I am a nationally recognized youth poet, co-chair of the Wellington Rangatahi Advisory Group, and current Class Representative at Victoria University. That doesn't mean I know what or where I am going in my future. It's okay to not have it all figured out.
I am here to help you establish your goals, ideas, and skills through English and Writing, tools which were pivotal to me in High School. I want you to gain the confidence to achieve anything, and make it past the most memorable and often toughest experience of youth.

Kia ora, my name is Maia, he uri tenei nō Ngati Awa me Ngai Tūhoe. I am a first year university student at Te Herenga Waka who attained excellence in Level 1, 2 and 3 English. These lessons are for rangatahi aged 12 - 18 who want to aim higher in their mahi. I believe that writing, poetry and literature extend past the classroom and are key to navigating Media Literacy and exploring your own feelings in written words. I stood on student council for 4 years, placed highly in multiple national poetry competitions, and understand how to navigate learning through a neurodiverse and maori-backed lens.
My approach will always be student-led, with the intent to cultivate skills that are both relevant to NCEA but also help rangatahi grow in english for themselves. Writing is a beautiful language that no matter what you speak, the words carry the mana. My goal is to enhance that mana further.
