About Gemma

I love the way music can work to bring people together in so many ways, regardless of culture, belief, social background or political differences. I enjoy exploring new ways to create music and the history behind different genres and styles that make each one so unique. I also enjoy crossing over several subject areas into one topic, such as the intersection of English and Music that results in Musical Theatre. My own interests include indie, rock, alternative, folk and musicals, but I enjoy analysing practically any type of music.

About the lesson

- I understand that learning works differently for everyone, so am willing to work around preferences in teaching style wherever possible!
- I can teach online for one hour at a time or less. I'm able to teach anyone looking to improve their music theory, musicology or practical playing skills up to A-Level standard, or up to Grade 6 in practical grades.
- I have been playing the flute for ten years while studying music from GCSE Level (Grade 9), through A-Level (Grade B) and now into university.
- I have achieved my Grade 5 in ABRSM Music Theory and have been part of several music ensembles playing a wide variety of genres.
- I have a deep love for both English and Classics as well as music, so I love exploring topics such as social contexts and historical significance behind music as well as theory.
