About Maya

I am a passionate language enthusiast and educator, currently a second year student at University College London studying Politics and International Relations. I am fluent in English, Italian, and Spanish, and have always been drawn to the power of language to bridge cultures and connect people. Throughout my academic journey, I’ve excelled in language studies, and have had practical experience using these languages professionally through my degree and various internships.

I want to teach because I find great fulfillment in helping others unlock and master new languages. I’ve had the opportunity to teach B1 Italian at University College London to undergraduate, master's, and PhD students, which helped me grow as an educator and adapt to different learning styles. In addition, I’ve worked with elementary school students in previous years, allowing me to tailor my teaching methods to younger learners. The joy of seeing students, regardless of their age or background, grasp new concepts and become confident in their language abilities is incredibly rewarding. Teaching allows me to inspire others and help them achieve their language goals, and that’s why I’m committed to sharing my knowledge and passion for languages.

About the lesson

My teaching style is student-centered, engaging, and adaptable! I strive to create a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and exploring the language. Drawing on my multilingual background, I love incorporating real-life examples and focusing on practical communication, ensuring that students not only understand grammar but also feel confident speaking and using Spanish in everyday situations.

I would describe my proficiency in Spanish as advanced. I’ve successfully passed both the AP Spanish Language and Culture and AP Spanish Literature exams with the maximum score, which earned me college credit. I’m fluent in reading, writing, and speaking Spanish, and I’ve had the opportunity to use my language skills in real-world settings, such as interpreting between Spanish, English, and Italian during conferences at my internship with the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean. Also, I graduated with the International Baccalaureate Bilingual International Diploma, guaranteeing me proficiency and fluency.
