About Amber
I am originally from California and earned my B.S. in Animal Science and Management from the University of California, Davis. I am currently pursuing my M.A. in Animal Studies at New York University, where I continue to build a strong interdisciplinary academic foundation. My academic background, combined with my curiosity and love of learning, allows me to support students thoughtfully and effectively.
I absolutely love animals and am equally passionate about helping others discover what excites and motivates them. I currently work as a student aide in an elementary classroom with kindergarteners, where I support students’ learning, confidence, and curiosity every day. This hands-on classroom experience has strengthened my ability to communicate clearly, remain patient, and adapt to different learning styles and needs.
I genuinely enjoy helping others learn and understand new ideas, whether that’s through reading, writing, discussion, or creative exploration. Outside of academics, I love reading and enjoy talking about recipes and food, which often helps me connect with students on a personal level. I am continually inspired by Ms. Frizzle from The Magic School Bus and her reminder to “Take chances, make mistakes, and get messy,” a mindset I bring into my tutoring by encouraging curiosity, confidence, and growth.

My approach as a tutor is centered on making sure every student feels heard, supported, and confident in asking questions. I always begin by giving the student space to explain what they are struggling with and what they feel unsure about, because understanding their perspective is key to effective learning. I take time to get to know each student and how they learn best, whether that’s through visual aids, hands-on practice, discussion, examples, or step-by-step breakdowns, and I use this understanding to guide our future sessions.
A typical lesson starts with a check-in to review goals, assignments, or upcoming deadlines. From there, we focus on breaking down challenging concepts into manageable pieces using techniques that match the student’s learning style. I may use visual aids, a whiteboard, graphic organizers, or guided practice to reinforce understanding. For writing-focused lessons, we spend time brainstorming ideas, organizing thoughts, developing strong arguments, and learning how to properly cite sources and integrate research. I also emphasize revision skills, clarity, and confidence in a student’s own voice.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my combination of academic experience and hands-on classroom work across a wide range of ages. As a UC Davis graduate, current NYU M.A. student, and student aide in an elementary classroom, I have experience supporting learners at all levels, from young students building foundational skills to older students refining advanced writing and analytical abilities. My lessons are tailored for elementary, middle school, high school, and college students, and I adapt my approach to meet each learner’s unique needs. My ultimate goal is not just to help students complete assignments, but to help them build skills, confidence, and independence that last beyond our sessions.
