About Matthew

I’m a Cambridge DELTA-qualified English teacher with more than 13 years’ experience teaching international students and adult learners.

I currently teach Academic English at a university pathway college in London, where I have worked as a teacher, module leader and academic manager. Over the years, I have helped students from a wide range of countries and backgrounds develop the English and academic skills they need to succeed at university and beyond.

I particularly enjoy helping students build confidence in their English. I know that learning a language can sometimes feel intimidating, so I aim to make my lessons friendly, supportive and relaxed while still giving you clear, constructive feedback and helping you make measurable progress.

My specialist areas include Academic English, IELTS preparation, academic writing, speaking and presentations, critical reading and general English. Whether your goal is to study at university, progress professionally or simply communicate more confidently in English, I’ll work with you to create lessons that suit your individual needs and goals.

About the lesson

I offer friendly, practical and personalised English lessons built around your individual goals. Whether you are preparing for IELTS, getting ready for university, improving your academic writing or simply becoming a more confident English speaker, I will tailor our lessons to what you actually need.

My lessons are interactive and focused on using English effectively. Depending on your goals, we can work on speaking and pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary, academic writing, critical reading, presentations, seminar skills, exam strategies or professional communication. I provide clear explanations, useful feedback and plenty of opportunities to practise.

I am Cambridge DELTA-qualified and have around 13 years’ experience teaching English to speakers of other languages. I currently teach academic English at a university pathway college in London, where I have also worked as a module leader and academic manager. I have extensive experience preparing international students for university study and supporting learners with academic writing, presentations, seminars and IELTS-style skills.

Lessons are normally 90 minutes, although this can be flexible depending on your needs. I teach adults and university students from approximately B1 (intermediate) to C1 (advanced) level.

Most importantly, I aim to create a relaxed environment where you feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and developing your confidence in English.
