About Edward

Hello! My name is Peng. Born and raised in the heart of China's capital, Beijing, I carry with me 20 years of authentic Mandarin language and the rich culture of '紫禁城' — the Forbidden City. Now, I'm embracing new adventures in Canada as a college student, where I continue to use my bilingual talents in Mandarin and English.

Teaching Chinese is not just a job for me, it's a bridge for cultural exchange and a way to share the nuances of the Beijing dialect, which I hold dear. My approach is friendly and enthusiastic, aiming to make learning as enjoyable and engaging as possible. I am eager to converse with you, share stories, and help you gain a true insider's perspective of my language!

I love playing soccer, hitting the gym, and embracing the great outdoors with a run, cycle, or swim. My spirit truly comes alive with the beats of hip-hop music, including the adventurous sounds of Chinese underground hip-hop, which is as treacherous as it is exhilarating!

As your tutor and friend, I'm looking forward to embarking on this linguistic journey together. Let's unlock the beauty of Mandarin and have fun along the way!

About the lesson

Immersed in the rigorous Chinese education system from a young age, I've navigated through the typical academic pathways in China, culminating in my high school graduation. After taking a two-year sabbatical to focus on personal growth, I took the bold step to study abroad in Canada. During my high school years, I developed a knack for English, which allowed me to naturally transition into a role where I helped classmates and friends with exam preparation and conversational practice.

In Canada, my passion for sharing my language and culture continued to flourish. I've had the joy of teaching Mandarin to friends who showed a keen interest in learning. While I have not yet obtained formal teaching certification, my proficiency in English and my native command of Mandarin and Beijing dialects have been the cornerstone of my informal tutoring experiences.

As I embark on this journey with this platform, I aim to enrich my teaching practices and consider pursuing professional certifications. My teaching philosophy is rooted in enthusiasm and patience, believing that the best learning happens in the context of genuine connection and shared excitement for the subject matter.
