I am an enthusiastic and compassionate professional with a doctorate in English and Creative Writing from Nottingham Trent University.

• MA in Creative Writing, Nottingham Trent University (Distinction)
• BA (Hons) in English with Creative Writing, Nottingham Trent University (First)

Professional Experience in Teaching, Learning, and Student Support:

2019-present: Associate Lecturer in English, Nottingham Trent University

• At Nottingham Trent University, I designed and presented lectures, workshops, and seminars for undergraduate students. I attended staff meetings, provided constructive written and verbal feedback on assessments, and assisted module leaders with programme development.
• Here, I tendered academic guidance and pastoral support to students with diverse religious, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds, assessing their needs and working with them to implement strategies to improve attendance and progression.
• During the Covid-19 pandemic, I adapted my lessons plans for virtual delivery via Microsoft Teams – attending elective training sessions to improve my resources.
• In 2021, I lead a series of professional skills development workshops, guiding students through activities on time management, imparting and responding to critical feedback, and goal setting. In 2023, I encouraged and advised students developing their own research projects, arranging regular meetings to discuss their progression, signposting relevant print and resources, and identifying potential barriers to completion.
• Modules: Arguing About English, Ways of Reading, American Literature, Modernism and Modernity, Gothic Rebels and Reactionaries, Literature and Psychoanalysis, Culture and Anarchy.

2021-2023: Associate Lecturer in Creative Writing, De Montfort University

• In this appointment, I planned and delivered practice-based creative writing workshops for undergraduate and postgraduate students. I attended staff meetings, provided constructive written and verbal feedback on creative portfolios, and assisted module leaders with programme development.
• Furthermore, I provided reasonable adjustments for students undergoing treatment for mental health conditions such as social anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder in accordance with university policies and equality legislation.
• Modules: Exploring Creative Writing, Writing Identity, Story Craft, Writing Place.

2020-2021: WRAP Lead Writer, Nottingham Trent University

• I facilitated extracurricular reading and writing interventions, promoting inclusivity and diversity by incorporating the work of novelists and poets from underrepresented backgrounds.
• In 2020, I supported participants to edit, format, and publish an online anthology of their work.

2019-2022: PhD Tutor, The Brilliant Club

• In this appointment, I lead academic enrichment programmes in disadvantaged primary and secondary schools, designed to increase the number of pupils from under-represented backgrounds progressing to highly selective universities.
• In 2019, I delivered the Key Stage 3 English syllabus titled ‘Through the Looking Glass: An Introduction to Literary Theory’ to Year 7 and 8 pupils at Heanor Gate Science College.
• In 2021, I engaged remotely (via Zoom) with a cohort of Key Stage 3 pupils at The Winsford Academy as part of the National Tutoring Programme, facilitating extra-curricular English Language and Literature tutorials for students with special educational needs and disabilities.

2017-2021: Midlands3Cities-Funded Doctoral Researcher, Nottingham Trent University

• As a Doctoral Researcher, I planned and delivered a four-year research project, utilising my organisation and information management skills to complete on-time and within budget.
• Here, I managed a team of stakeholders, composing quarterly progress reports and coordinating regular supervisory meetings including senior university lecturers and Midlands3Cities funding representatives.
• I regularly disseminated my research findings at international conferences and lead public-facing writing workshops, communicating confidently with professional and non-expert audiences.

2015-2016: Academic Student Mentor, Nottingham Trent University, Clifton Library

• In this appointment, I organised and conducted one-to-one tutorials for undergraduate students, offering academic support and information on good scholarly conduct.
• Furthermore, I signposted appropriate resources on MHRA and Harvard referencing, writing literature reviews, learning to proofread, and delivering oral presentations.

2013-2017: Schools, Colleges, and Community Outreach Ambassador, Nottingham Trent University, Centre for Student and Community Engagement

• As a Schools, Colleges and Community Outreach Student Ambassador, I facilitated interactive workshops designed to support young people in making informed decisions about their futures, offering guidance on how to get to university as well as being successful once enrolled.
• I contributed toward the provision of large-scale aspiration-raising events such as Year 6 Campus Visits, Residential Summer Schools for Year 9 and Year 12 pupils, English: Raising the Grade Conferences, Global Week, and Open Days. Moreover, I communicated professionally and empathetically with telephone applicants during Clearing and Adjustment, following institutional procedures to ensure that service requirements were met. Here, I provided reassurance and guidance to applicants who did not meet the conditions of their first-choice university – offering places on alternative courses.
