About Rosie

Hello! I hope you are doing well!

I am Rosie, currently a Liberal Arts student at Essex. Liberal Arts is an interdisciplinary degree (multiple subjects) I am focusing mine in Sociology and Linguistics but I also take modules in Creative Writing and Marketing.

It was less than a decade ago I was sitting my GCSEs and A-levels so I know exactly how those feel. I found them pretty anxiety-inducing.

I scored a 7 (A) in my GCSE English Literature exam, along with a 7 (A) in Film Studies, an 8 (A*) in Business Studies, and a 6 (B) in History - I have included these as they were essay writing based examinations.

For my A-levels, I scored an A in Sociology, a B in Business, and a C in English Language and Literature. Prior to my final exam I was scoring A* in English, but struggled with a lot of exam anxiety on the day.

This is why I want to support other students in their essay writing. I know how scary exams can feel but I also know how much additional support and a solid writing plan can really make the difference.

About the lesson

Initially, I started off tutoring my younger sister - much to her joy - and now want to expand that to help more students.

Being a University student and having gone through my GCSEs and A-levels, I understand how overwhelming it can feel. I want to foster a relaxed learning environment that works flexibly around the student's needs. Including the pupil in decision making - which has been shown to boost co-operation, and can create a sense of ownership and pride.

Initially, I would like to have a meeting to establish goals, areas of weakness, and to see if I would be a good fit.

Future lessons would then work around these goals, choosing one narrower focus each time. Sessions typically run for an hour HOWEVER I am happy to be more flexible with this should it be needed.

I believe that breadth of knowledge is just as important as depth, and love to incorporate a slightly more interdisciplinary approach, taking ideas from literature, history, sociology and philosophy. I find this can make sessions more interesting, and inspire creative thinking.

I am currently studying a Liberal Arts degree, which is a mixture of all these elements.
