Methodology

When I tutor writing, I focus more on the writer than on the assignment itself. The goal is to help improve the student's writing process. Instead of telling the student what to fix, I try to ask them questions about specific aspects of their paper. I find that this helps the student reflect more carefully about their writing and discover on their own what works and what does not.

Background

Currently I am applying to pursue a Masters in Education. At my undergraduate institution, Santa Clara University, I worked as a writing tutor for three years. I have worked with many different students on a wide variety of writing assignments.

Men’s Ultimate 2013-2017, Captain 2015-2017. As Captain, I planned 3 to 4 practices a week, work-out pods that met twice a week, and managed a $40,000 budget. I oversaw Santa Clara’s best ever finish at sectionals and inaugurated the annual exhibition game with Stanford. I also helped develop the skills of young players who were completely new to ultimate. 10 hours a week between practices and workouts.
Ethics Bowl 2015-2017. Placed 3rd (out of 16) at Southwest Regionals. Placed 4th (out of 37) at Nationals in 2017. I worked on a team with four other students to develop arguments for a position on as many as 15 ethical dilemmas. 8 hours a week Fall and Winter Quarter.
