About Jennifer

"A day without laughter is a day wasted" By: Charlie Chaplin

The work of a successful teacher takes immense creativity. Designing engaging work for students, having the ability to constantly improvise, overcoming obstacles and barriers, and crafting a space or setting for others to flourish are among the many daily tasks of a teacher. Creativity by definition requires that something be brought into existence. Whether crafting original lectures, designing curriculum, or having a certain look to bring thirty students to silence, the work of a teacher is creative and original.

It’s very easy to look at teachers who do big and elaborate projects with their students and think that they are the “creative teachers.” And yes, we can use them as models and examples of what we want to strive for. But don’t let those aspirations negate this fact. Being a mother of two beautiful children has helped me realize that we learn something new every day.

Differentiated instruction is the idea of creating tailored education plans for students based on differing needs. This may involve the ways by which students access content, the activities they do, the assessment techniques a teacher uses or even the physical setup of a classroom. As all people have varying abilities and talents, it's beneficial for a teacher to adapt their teaching styles to unique students. This is also a key step in supporting students with disabilities in the classroom and ensuring they feel welcome and comfortable in academic environments.
Inquiry-based learning promotes the idea of learning by investigation, where students can complete projects, ask questions and find answers by themselves. While teachers act as resources in these times, the goal is for students to solve problems and discover information on their own. Upon learning about concepts, they can explain and present the concepts in their own words to further enforce them in their memories. Then, students can advance to higher levels at their own pace. This is a way for students to perform an active role in the learning process.
I became a teacher mainly because of the tremendous impact several teachers had on developing me into who I am today. My hope was that I could have that same impact on my students, not just in becoming knowledgeable learners (which the great teachers of my past always strived for with me), but also because of how they taught me to become a better person.
