About Emma

I have been privately tutoring for the last 10 years and have taught in an outstanding school, been head of the English department there for 10 years and trained 15 newly qualified teachers. I have tutored pupils for the 11+ who received offers from ALL their chosen schools, 6 GCSE students who were awarded level 9 and level 8 for their English Literature and English Language; an A level student who was awarded an A* and is now at Oxford and another who was awarded an A and is reading PPE at Warwick University. I have also spent time tutoring reluctant boys at both KS3 and 4 and have seen a change in their progress through my ability to tease out their skills by instilling confidence in their own abilities.

About the lesson

I am extremely passionate about Literature and seek to enthuse my tutees by engaging them with the texts through relating them to their own experiences and reference points so that they feel confident in accessing challenging content. We practise with exemplar exam papers and focus on key skills. I also teach different strategies for revising texts, comparison skills and language analysis.

Perfect! Emma has been a fantastic support to both my sons who are in Key Stage 3. She has instilled confidence in my younger son and he has started to produce some excellent work at school. With my older son, who has different needs, Emma has ensured that she is stretching him and has started preparing him for his GCSEs. Emma is friendly, informative and the children enjoy their sessions with her. I can’t recommend her highly enough.
