About Christopher
Hi! I’m Christopher L. Shade, J.D., a passionate English Language Arts educator who believes every student has a story worth telling—and the skills to grow as a reader and writer with the right support. Before becoming a teacher, I earned my law degree from the University of Missouri School of Law, where I specialized in writing, argumentation, and evidence-based communication. I now bring that same focus on clarity, critical thinking, and persuasive writing into the classroom and my tutoring work. As a current middle school ELA teacher and 2024 Teacher of the Year, I’ve helped students of all backgrounds—including reluctant readers, high achievers, IEP/ELL learners, and students who simply need confidence—to improve their reading levels, craft strong essays, analyze complex texts, and discover their voice. My approach is data-driven, culturally relevant, supportive, and tailored to the individual student, not a one-size-fits-all worksheet system. I believe literacy is power: the power to think clearly, express yourself boldly, and understand the world around you. My goal as a tutor is to build both academic skills and real confidence, so students walk away not just knowing answers, but owning their growth.
