Hi! I’m a (relatively) new teacher. I graduated college in 2018 and I’ve been teaching math and science ever since. I’ve taught math from 3rd grade all the way up through algebra, and I have also taught chemistry.
When I teach, I like to use an approach that makes my students feel comfortable — first, I provide detailed explanations of topics that will be covered; secondly, I demonstrate the concepts step by step; thirdly, I ask students to help me walk through certain steps of a problem; and then once I feel my students are ready to venture off on their own and try problems independently, I have students complete the problem on their own, while I complete it as well, and then we compare our answers. It’s really that simple! I like to have fun in class, and I like to keep an open dialogue going; I don’t want to just turn into a lecturer. I love to have discussion-based classes.
I am currently an elementary and middle school math teacher at a private school that serves students with special needs and students on the autism spectrum. I have been teaching since graduating from college in May of 2018. Nothing brings me more joy than instilling confidence in students’ mathematical abilities. There’s nothing like seeing a child realize their true potential and to start seeing themselves in a brighter light.
