I am a retired Reading Specialist giving instruction in reading and planning instruction to increase reading ability at least one grade level.
My instruction would include:
Ganske Word Study Assessment
Begin a vocabulary study based on the results
Short review of basic words
Word sort based on the Ganske results
Writing words in notebook according to features
Writing a sentence
A chosen trade book at your child's present level (Will move according to instruction.)
Guided questions on the book.
Use strategies such as clarifying, summarizing, predicting, and questioning as recommended for the book.
Use interactive ways to involve student in vocabulary and word recognition, as well as comprehension and fluency skills.
Giving lessons for 9 years. Classroom teacher (26 years). Reading teacher for 12 years. Retired from elementary school. Tutored After School Program (9 years) and home after teaching each day. One student I tutored 1st grade through 5th grade is a student in Criminal Law James Madison University
The first lesson is free.
In-person lessons are $15 per hour at Alabaster Library.
Webcam lessons are $20 per hour, 5 lessons $85,10 lessons $150.
Lesson cancelations are $10 per hour.
