About Brennan

I am a dedicated elementary reading tutor with a passion for empowering students to become confident, lifelong readers. With professional certifications in both Special Education and English as a Second Language (ESL), I specialize in creating inclusive, personalized learning environments that meet the unique needs of every learner. My approach combines evidence-based literacy instruction with engaging, multisensory activities to help students build essential phonics, fluency, and comprehension skills. Whether your child needs support overcoming reading challenges or simply wants to sharpen their skills, I am committed to fostering a supportive atmosphere where students feel encouraged to take risks, celebrate their progress, and develop a genuine love for reading.

About the lesson

I make literacy accessible for students K-5! I utilize the Science of Reading framework of instruction, focusing on core components of literacy: Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Fluency, Vocabulary, & Comprehension.

My lessons are direct and explicit - I typically model the skill first, have students practice the skill along with me, then have students show the skill themselves.

*A typical reading lesson plan looks like:
-Review of previous sound/spelling/letter
-Introduction of new sound/spelling/letter
-Practice blending and segmenting sounds
-Practice automatic word recognition/sight words
-Applying new sound/spelling to decodable texts
-Shared reading/comprehension practice

*Lessons are always individualized and tailored to student needs. As a practicing special education teacher, my goal is always to master skills before moving on to new ones!
