About Megan
I am highly effective at teaching the foundational reading skills that support long-term literacy success, including phonemic awareness, phonics, decoding, fluency, and early comprehension. I meet students where they are and help them grow with intentional, research-based instruction. It’s so important students are able to read and write.

1. Warm Welcome & Connection (3 minutes)
Purpose: Build trust and engagement immediately.
Greet the student by name.
Quick check-in:
“Show me with your fingers—how are you feeling today?”
Let them choose:
Show 2 book covers on screen.
“Which one do you want to read today?”
Choice keeps kids engaged online.
2. Interactive Word Play (7 minutes)
Purpose: Phonics practice without worksheets.
Tools:
Digital letter tiles (Google Slides, Jamboard, whiteboard)
Cursor control or verbal participation
Adjust by level:
Pre-Readers / Early Sounds
Drag-and-drop letters to build:
Their name
Target sounds
“Sound Hunt”:
“Find something in your room that starts with /b/.”
Beginning Readers (CVC / CCVC)
Build-a-Word:
cat → cap → clap
Change one letter at a time on screen and read together.
“Tap & Say”:
Tap each sound as they blend.
Developing Readers
Digital word sorts
Real vs silly word game (kids love this online)
Keep it fast and interactive—no more than 2–3 minutes per activity.
3. Supported Reading Time (10 minutes)
Purpose: Successful, low-stress reading practice.
Before Reading (2 minutes)
Preview the cover:
“What do you think this story is about?”
Highlight 1–2 tricky words and practice together.
During Reading (6 minutes)
Screen share the book.
Use:
Echo reading
Choral reading
Page-by-page turn-taking
Use cursor or highlight tools to track print.
If the student gets stuck:
Prompt gently:
“Try the first sound.”
“Does that sound right?”
Praise effort immediately.
After Reading (2 minutes)
One simple response:
“What was your favorite part?”
Quick interaction:
Draw a scene on the whiteboard
Act out a character movement
4. Reading Game / Skill Reinforcement (7 minutes)
Purpose: Practice without fatigue.
Choose ONE:
Digital Word Hunt
Find words from the story on the screen.
Sentence Builder
Drag words to build a sentence.
Whiteboard Writing
Write a silly sentence together.
️ Keep writing minimal and supported.
5. Celebrate & Close (3 minutes)
Purpose: End with confidence and motivation.
Reflect:
“What felt easiest today?”
Give specific praise:
“You blended sounds really smoothly.”
Preview next session:
“Next time, we’ll read another story like this.”
End with a smile and success.
