About William

If you're looking for help with AP Calculus, Pre-Calculus, or the SAT/ACT Math sections, you've come to the right place! I am an enthusiastic online tutor -- and my goal is to simply make your life easier, help you elevate your grades and boost those test scores, regardless of where you are starting. I graduated college during the pandemic, and mastered the art of online teaching by jumping straight into my educational career -- first as a full-time High School AP Calculus AB & BC Teacher in NYC Public Charter High Schools, and then joining a budding tutoring/education start-up the year after. In my short time teaching thus far, I realized one thing above all was most important: Meet students where they are. Meaning that regardless of your current skill or motivation level I aim to support and maximize what we can out of any given session, help you set up study strategies for the future, and provide test-taking insights without judgment! As for my own qualifications, I scored a 5/5 on all AP Calc BC, AP Physics 1&2, and AP Statistics exams. I also scored a 35/36 overall on the ACT, a 36/36 on the ACT Math section specifically, and a 800/800 on the SAT Math II exam (back when that was still a thing!). I was a catch all learning enthusiast throughout college, and graduated with a BS/BA dual degree in Biology and Sociology, as well as earning my MEd Master's in Education just a year later. About the lesson

At my core, I am passionate about teaching math from a student-first perspective!

That is, I aim to first understand how a student is thinking about a problem, and then filling the gaps and providing the guidance necessary for them to reach that "a-ha!" moment themselves.

I do this not because I think it's the way teaching is "supposed" to be -- but because a student-first style is the most efficient method to leveling up one's mathematical competency, and ultimately conquering those exams!

A typical lesson begins with a simple conversation. We should outline what both your long and short-term goals are, and how I can best support you to achieve them.

With classes, my experience is that more time needs to be spent on fleshing out conceptual gaps. And in-depth focus needs to be spent on just a few core questions to evaluate if we got the lesson.

Standardized tests are different.They are far more formulaic. A bit of time may need to be spent on a conceptual gap, but then repetition is key. Working on study skills outside of the tutoring session is key.

My lessons are tailored for high school and college students who want to strengthen their math skills, regardless of where they currently stand. Whether you're excelling or struggling, motivated or not, I aim to meet where you are and elevate you from there!
