About Muhammad
Hello, This is Ilyas Raza from Karachi, Pakistan. I hold a master's degree in English Literature and Applied Linguistics. I have been associated with some prestigious institutions over the years. At present, I serve as lecturer in English in a public sector college.
Both teaching and learning are amazing forms of arts. Join me to have an amazing journey of exploration the horizons of English language and literature. Let's dive into the ocean of exciting language learning experience and dredge up the jewels of incredible knowledge and insight.
I don't have a rigid, stereo-typed teaching style rather a flexible one that is student centered and ensures learner's autonomy. I believe learning should be fun and not a mess of confusion and ambiguity.
I tend to incorporate all the major skills of English language including the rules of language, the word bank and the ways of words pronounced in a language.
So far as the study of literature is concerned, I make sure that learner's intensive as well as extensive skills must be reinforced to appreciate the classic and mastery pieces of literary writings.
Finally, I would like to invite you to adopt a thought provoking and innovative approach of learning with me. I hope this will lead you at the pinnacle of success.
Thank you and wish you all the very best for your future endeavours.
ILYAS RAZA

I try to incorporate the following techniques and methodologies:
Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) for English language:
The main goal is to enable students to use English effectively in real-life situations.
Let me support with an example:
Suppose, the lesson is about a visit to a restaurant and learn how to order coffee. First, show students a restaurant menu, students begin their discussion regarding making an order, once their discussion is over, teach some useful expressions used in a restaurant then, help students create a restaurant dialogue. Finally, get the students's feedback.
In this way, the students, improve their speaking confidence, develop listening skills, strengthens word bank, learn grammatical expressions in context and enhance their critical thinking.
Close Reading and Reader Response Approach for English Literature:
Close Reading refers to the critical analysis of the text whereas Reader Response refers students' connection of the text with their own ideas and life experience.
The main goal of this approach is to help students comprehend, analyse, interpret and appreciate English Literature.
During Close Reading phase, the questions are posed regarding the author, his purpose of the text, identify the central conflict, explore major themes, etc.
During Reader Response phase, the students have agreements/disagreements, express themselves about what they would have done if they had been in this situation, discuss any relevance of the story with the present world and the key takeaways from that literary piece of writing.
For example, when teaching "A Devoted Friend" by Oscar Wilde:
Use CLT to have students role-play scenes, debate characters' decisions, and summarize the story orally.
Use Close Reading and Reader-Response to analyze irony, symbolism, themes, and moral lessons, supported by evidence from the text.
Typical length of a lesson is one hour.
