About Hamish
I have tutored full-time for over five years, helping students to engage with their subjects, improve their grades and overcome aspects of their learning that were holding them back. I teach English up to degree level; I can also help your child improve their scores in maths, science, and verbal/non-verbal reasoning in their Eleven-plus, Key Stage 3 and GCSE exams. I can provide help to students taking their A levels in History, English Language or Philosophy. Together, we can talk through and break down any aspect of your subject you are having difficulty with. I can give you solid tips and techniques to help you approach essay questions, substantiate your own ideas and convey them in the kind of well-expressed written work that exam boards award high marks to.

Hello! I am here to help. I am an experienced, engaging tutor of lots of subjects, including English, Humanities and entrance exams. Teaching one-on-one has taught me that there is a way for each and every student to properly engage with their learning. School and university work tends to feel rushed and pressured, but I will give you all the space and time you need to get to grips with your subject. I am an experienced tutor of English Literature, which I teach up to degree level. I have given lots of help to students taking their A levels in History, English Language or Philosophy, and I can give you really solid techniques to help you approach essay questions, substantiate your own ideas and convey them in the kind of well-expressed written work that exam boards award high marks to. I can also help your child improve their scores in maths, science, and verbal/non-verbal reasoning in their Eleven-plus, Key Stage 3 and GCSE exams. I am also a trained TESOL teacher with a CELTA qualification (the best initial TESOL qualification). I understand what it is like to fail to get the best out of yourself. I also know how to respond. An unfocused second year of my degree threatened my overall mark. I then made specific changes to my essay writing technique and my time usage. These raised my marks to a 1st degree average for my third year, balancing my overall mark back up to a high 2:1. I think this experience of significant improvement equips me to help you do the same, certainly more than someone who sailed through academia from the very start. Having worked with students with a range of learning disabilities, I know how to listen to you and engage with your train of thought surrounding a subject, rather than simply expect you to follow mine.
