About Scout
I have been a tutor at my university unofficially and officially, have nearly completed my certification course to be a TEFL certified teacher, I have taught students of all ages (pre school to university level) and of many different abilities (experience mainly in autism and ADHD, but also in writing phobias and dyslexia among others), and I have been tutoring now for 6 years. Depending on the student’s needs on an individual basis, we have worked towards different goals ranging from salvaging failing grades, to assisting with more specific concerns such as reoccurring errors in academic essays, and even to maintaining high grades from start to finish within a semester. I had attended university studying English literature and Anthropology previously, and now study English and Creative Writing.

I prefer a friendly, laid-back, and empathetic approach to tutoring, no matter your age. I am very patient and understanding of learning differences as well as life circumstances that can make studying difficult, and prefer to focus on realistic goals while also validating one’s aspirations. I will help you work with the abilities you do have instead of forcing you into methods that aren’t compatible. My approach tends to be more realistic as I understand that sometimes we’re just trying to get through it, but I also strongly encourage ambition and creativity as tenants of academic success! We will start with analyzing previous work, comments from teachers and professors that you have received, and any barriers to learning you may have (even just a lot of homework is a barrier!) before we approach future assignments. I am also happy to help with last minute work and in progress assignments! I frequently re-explain lessons that are confusing, break down concepts and methods so they are more accessible, and try to keep things casual and stress-free while managing academic English as it can be a very difficult subject to navigate. Students of all ages are welcome, although I specialize in late high school to university level material. Let’s see what we can do to get you working towards and meeting your academic needs!
